Long ago, a calamity tore through the kingdom of Vael. 

The dead left behind no graves, only moonstones: pale shards that hum faintly when held by those who loved them. 

Each shard carries one echo. A fragment of memory, a phrase, sometimes a song. 

To Vaelans, they are sacred. To keep an echo is to keep a person alive in some small way.
